Podaa Podi (2012)
Silambarasan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar feature in a movie written and directed by newcomer Vignesh Shivan. Duncan Telford and Anthony Gonsalves handled the film’s cinematography and editing respectively while Dharan Kumar created the soundtrack and score.
The movie began filming in 2008 and it was released on November 13 2012 just in time for Diwali. Reviews for the movie were contradictory.
Velaiilla Pattadhari (2014)
In his first attempt at directing Velraj created the 2014 Tamil-language comedy-drama film Velaiilla Pattadhari also known as VIP. In addition to Vivek Saranya Ponvannan Samuthirakani and Surbhi playing supporting roles the movie stars Dhanush and Amala Paul. Along with his roles as an actor producer and distributor for the project in collaboration with Escape Artists Motion Pictures Dhanush also contributed lyrics and produced the album for the movie’s original soundtrack.
Anirudh Ravichander composed the film’s album and score. Hari Dinesh oversaw the stunt work for this film. The movie centers on Raghuvaran a graduate who has been jobless for four years and shows how he manages to obtain employment while successfully overcoming several challenges both before and after.
In Chennai alone 30 screens showed the movie. According to Sreedhar Pillai Tamil Nadu alone accounted for 100.6 million of the movie’s opening day revenue. In Tamil Nadu the movie made around 13 crores ($1.6 million) in its opening weekend and 24 crores ($3.0 million) in ten days.
The movie made a net profit of 50 crores (US$6.3 million) in its fourth week of release. The opening weekend’s box office took in 190.8 million. In total the movie earned $1 billion in Tamil Nadu.
Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018)
Vignesh Shivan’s crime comedy film is an Indian production in Tamil. Along with Karthik Ramya Krishnan Keerthy Suresh Nandha Kalaiyarasan RJ Balaji and Suresh Chandra Menon Suriya also appears in the movie. Anirudh Ravichander created the soundtrack for the movie and Dinesh B. Krishnan handled the photography along with A. Prasad Sreekar. It is a remake of the 2013 Hindi film Special 26 which was based on the Mumbai Opera House theft of 1987 a real-life incident.
The movie’s main photography started in September 2016 and was completed in August 2017. On January 12 2018 Thaana Serndha Kootam was released in theaters around the world. Both critics and viewers gave it largely favorable reviews praising the cast’s performances as well as the writing direction script social message background music and soundtrack. The movie did well at the box office.
The movie made $19 million on its first day at the box office including $6.5 million in Tamil Nadu $1.9 million in Kerala $1.1 million in Karnataka and more than $9.5 million from the rest of India and the world. In total the movie made $90.2 million throughout its run.
Paava Kadhaigal (2020)
The movie is made up of four short films directed by Vignesh Shivan Vetrimaaran Sudha Kongara and Gautham Vasudev Menon. The movie examines the effects of sin pride and honor on intricate romantic relationships via the lens of four distinct storylines. Kalidas Jayaram Sai Pallavi Simran and Anjali are among the ensemble cast members in the anthology along with Prakash Raj Gautham Vasudev Menon Kalki Koechlin Shanthanu Bhagyaraj and others. On December 18th 2020 Netflix released it.
Justin Prabhakaran Anirudh Ravichander Karthik and R wrote the soundtrack album and the background music for Paava Kadhaigal. Justin Prabhakaran Shan Karuppasamy Vignesh Shivan Madhan Karky and Yugabharathi wrote the songs’ lyrics for the film Sivatmikha.
Late in 2018 rumors began to circulate that Netflix intended to produce a Tamil anthology film that would be comparable to Hindi anthologies like Lust Stories which the streaming service had the rights to. Four short films for the anthology will be directed by Sudha Kongara Gautham Vasudev Menon Vignesh Shivan and Vetrimaaran. They were revealed on August 28th 2019. The movie was also Netflix’s first foray into streaming television programming. The filming was delayed because of the director’s commitments to other projects after the production started in October 2019.
Pebbles (2021)
This film is directed by debutant P. S. Vinothraj. Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara produced the movie under the Rowdy Pictures label. The movie’s soundtrack was composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and Ganesh Siva Jeya Parthipan and Vignesh Kumulai were in charge of the cinematography and editing respectively.
The Netherlands’ 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam screened Pebbles on February 4 2021 and it won the festival’s Tiger Award. It will also be presented at the 52nd International Film Festival of India in the feature film category of the Indian Panorama section. It was chosen as the Indian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards but it did not receive a nomination.
Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal (2022)

Vignesh Shivan is the author and director of the 2022 Indian Tamil romantic black comedy film Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. Samantha Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi appear in it. Anirudh wrote the movie’s score and the soundtrack album. An unlucky man’s life changes in the movie Rambo when he falls in love. The only issue is that he falls in love with two women instead of just one.
On April 28 2022 Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal received a theatrical release. It garnered mixed to unfavorable reviews from critics and viewers who complimented the main cast’s acting (especially that of Vijay Sethupathi Samantha and Nayanthara) the background music and the soundtrack but faulted the plot climax and running time. Despite the unfavorable reviews the movie made over US$8.8 million ($70 crore) at the box office and was a success.
Its initial release date was set for December 2021 but due to post-production issues the date was moved to April. The movie was supposed to be released simultaneously in Telugu as Kanmani Rambo Khatija but that version didn’t come out because of bad reviews.

AK 62
The next movie starring actor Ajith Kumar tentatively titled AK 62 would be directed by Lyca Productions under the direction of Vignesh Shivan.According to a statement from Lyca Productions the movie’s production will start by year’s end and it will hit theaters in the middle of 2023. Anirudh will write the movie’s score and G. K. M. Tamil Kumaran will oversee production.
Vignesh Shivan and Ajith’s movie had its official debut on Friday March 18). Ajith’s 62nd movie will be directed by Vignesh Shivan. To confirm it the creators have stepped forward. The soundtrack will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander and Nayanthara is reportedly reuniting with Ajith for the fourth time.

Oor Kuruvi a comedy-entertainment film directed by Kavin will be made by Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara’s Rowdy Pictures. Arun K. a first-time director will handle the project.
