Udit Narayan Biography

Udit Narayan is an Indian dubbing singer, best known for his performances in Hindi films. He has also sung in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Malayalam, Assamese, Bagli and Maithili. He has won four National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards, and has been nominated twenty times.

The Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his services to art and culture. As many as 21 of his tracks were included in the BBC’s list of the top 40 Bollywood soundtracks of all time.

In recognition of his contribution, Nepal’s King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev awarded him the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu in 2001 and later the Chitragupta Cineyatra Samman in 2015 for his contribution to Bhojpuri cinema. He is the first male singer to win a Filmfare Award in over 30 years (1980s, 1990s and 2000s).

After causing a commotion at the hotel, Ranjana claimed that she was Udit’s first wife and that he had married another woman without informing her or divorcing her. The two then met at a place for a four-hour meeting. After more than three months of court battles, Udit publicly acknowledged his first wife.

Just two years into their marriage, Udit fell in love with another woman. Deepa Gahatraj, a Nepali actress working in Bollywood, met Udit and the two hit it off and decided to take the next step. Although Udit had not been able to divorce his first wife, Ranjana, Deepa and Udit were married by the end of 1985. It is not clear whether Deepa knew about Ranjana’s whereabouts when she married Udit.
