Biography of Udit Narayan
Udit Narayan is an Indian dubbing singer, best known for his performances in Hindi films. He has also sung in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Oriya, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Malayalam, Assamese, Bagli and Maithili. He has won four National Film Awards and five Filmfare Awards, and has been nominated twenty times.
The Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his services to art and culture. As many as 21 of his tracks were included in the BBC’s list of the top 40 Bollywood soundtracks of all time.
In recognition of his contribution, Nepal’s King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev awarded him the Gorkha Dakshina Bahu in 2001 and later the Chitragupta Cineyatra Samman in 2015 for his contribution to Bhojpuri cinema. He is the first male singer to win a Filmfare Award in over 30 years (1980s, 1990s and 2000s).

Udit Narayan Jha was born in 1955 in a Maithil Brahmin family. His father Harekrishna Jha is Nepali and his mother Bhuvaneshwari Jha is Indian. In 2006, Ranjana Narayan claimed that she was Narayan’s first wife, but Narayan always denied it. Later, he accepted her and promised to provide her with maintenance.
Narayan has been married twice, first to Ranjana Narayan Jha and second to Deepa Narayan Jha. He started dating Deepa Narayan while he was married to Ranjana Narayan. Deepa and Narayan got married in 1985. He has a son with Deepa Narayan, Aditya Narayan, who is also a dubbing singer.

Ranjana Narayan Jha
Udit Narayan got married for the first time in 1984 to Bihar native Ranjana Narayan Jha. Since Udit was not yet famous then, his marriage did not receive much attention. After moving to Mumbai, he never looked back and luck was on his side. Even his wife who was waiting for him to come home and take her to their new home ignored him.
Everything remained peaceful until 2006, when Udit Narayan’s background came back to haunt him. In April 2006, Udit had come to Patna for a show and had booked a room in a fancy hotel when Ranjana stormed in with a group of media reporters and refused to leave Udit’s room despite repeated warnings.
After causing a commotion at the hotel, Ranjana claimed that she was Udit’s first wife and that he had married another woman without informing her or divorcing her. The two then met at a place for a four-hour meeting. After more than three months of court battles, Udit publicly acknowledged his first wife.
Deepa Gahatragh
Just two years into their marriage, Udit fell in love with another woman. Deepa Gahatraj, a Nepali actress working in Bollywood, met Udit and the two hit it off and decided to take the next step. Although Udit had not been able to divorce his first wife, Ranjana, Deepa and Udit were married by the end of 1985. It is not clear whether Deepa knew about Ranjana’s whereabouts when she married Udit.
Less than a year after their marriage, Udit and Deepa had a son, Aditya Narayan, who is now a famous Bollywood singer. The ‘Papa Kahte Hain’ singer said that his wife had been very supportive of him throughout his early career.
The Struggle of Udit Narayan
He had a difficult early life and began his career with a brief stint at Radio Nepal. In the 1970s, he sang Maithili Nepali and Bhojpuri songs. In the late 1970s, he moved to Mumbai on a scholarship to study music. He studied Indian classical music for six years at Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan. In 1980, music director Rajesh Roshan offered him a role in the film Unees Bees and he jumped at the opportunity.

Narayan’s Bollywood career began in 1980 when music director Rajesh Roshan noticed him and asked him to sing for the Indian film Unees-Bees. Narayan got the opportunity to share the screen with Mohammed Rafi. He sang the couplets in Devanand’s Swami Dada. In the film Sannata, he sang a duet for the first time.
Soon after, Narayan sang in several films, including Bade Dil Wala in 1983, in which he sang with veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar on a song written by veteran music director RD Burman. In the same year, Narayan co-starred with Kishore Kumar in the film Kehdo Pyar Hai. Suresh Wadkar was another singer who shared the screen with him, and the song was written by Bappi Lahiri.

Marital Disputes
The singer went to great lengths to hide his first marriage with Ranjana Jha Narayan. She took him to court and later he admitted that she was his first wife. Despite all the bad press and derogatory comments, Ranjana never expressed her displeasure to Deepa Narayan Jha.
