Nutan Samarth Bahl, also known as Nutan, is an Indian actress who has appeared in many Hindi films. She has appeared in more than 70 films, mostly as the lead, in both big-budget and art-house films, ranging from urban romances to literary adaptations to psychological and social realist dramas.
Nutan is considered one of the finest actors in the history of Indian cinema, known for her natural acting style and her portrayal of conflicted female characters that are often considered unconventional. She has won a record five Indian Film Awards for Best Actress and was awarded the Padma Shri by the Indian government in 1974.
Nutan began acting in roles in the 1980s and continued to work until shortly before her death. Everything was going well on Devi’s sets until one day a slap from Nutan silenced the entire crew. In 1972, in a heated interview with Stardust, Nutan revealed the reason for slapping her co-star Sanjeev Kapoor in public.
Nutan said from the beginning that it all started after the two worked together on the film “Gouri”. She said: “Since I worked with Sanjeev in “Gouri”, my relationship with him has always been friendly, frank, polite and professional. But that’s all.
