Actor William Shatner has a net worth of $100 million. Like Jack Nicholson, Star Trek icon William Shatner also made it onto the list of wisely spending celebrities thanks to a particularly clever conversation.
In 1997, the actor – previously best known for playing Captain Kirk in the cult series – was hired to front a TV campaign for US travel website Priceline.com. With the dotcom bubble taking hold, Shatner agreed to take shares in the firm as part of his payment.
That bubble burst in 2000, sending the firm’s shares tumbling to just $1.80 (£1.10). But shareholders who rode out the storm had the last laugh, and those same shares now trade at more than $400 (£252).
In May last year, the Telegraph reported that Shatner had already made $600 million from the firm’s success.
From 2004 to 2008, he played lawyer Denny Crane in the television drama The Practice and its spin-off Boston Legal, for which he received two Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. Shatner currently stars in the CBS sitcom $#*! My Dad Says.
