Vivekanandan, known professionally as Vivek, is a Tamil film actor, comedic television personality, singer and social activist. He was introduced to films by director K. Balachand and has won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Comedian three times for his performances in Run (2002), Sami (2003) and Perajagan (2004), and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian five times for his performances in Unalug Naan Irundar (1999), Run (2002), Parthiban Kanavu (2003), Anyan (2005) and Sivaji (2005).
His comedic skills included witticisms and wordplay with social and political satire, and critics nicknamed him “Chinna Kalaivanar” and compared him to NS Krishnan. He died on April 17, 2021, at the age of 59, of a heart attack.
In 2009, Vivek received the Padma Shri Award from the Indian government for his contribution to the arts. Vivek was awarded an honorary doctorate by Satya Nadu University for his contribution to society through cinema. As a television personality, Vivek has hosted several events and interviewed media personalities including APJ Abdul Kalam. In 2010, Vivek launched the Green Kalam Movement, inspired by Kalam's environmental activism, with the goal of planting 1 billion trees in Tamil Nadu.

Suji is the only daughter of billionaire Vishwanathan and loves to play pranks on the unwary. Moorthy Vishwanathan's friends Ajay and Swarna want to take over Vishwanathan's property, so Moorthy arranges for Raja to marry Suji. On the other hand, Suji marries Ram.

Rum is a 2017 horror comedy thriller film written and directed by Sai Bharath in the Tamil language. Anirudh Ravichander composed the film's score and it stars Hrishikesh, Vivek, Narain, Sanchita Shetty and Miya. The film went into production in early 2016 and was released on February 17, 2017.
The film begins with Shiva and his friends visiting a bungalow. They encounter some strange happenings in the haunted guesthouse. The filmmaker revealed that the word Rum is an old Tamil word which means ruling and not a drink as is commonly believed.

At the audio launch of his film Bigil on Sunday, Vivek commented on the lyrics of 'Nenjil Kudiyirukkum', a song from Sivaji-Irumbu Vyjyanthimala's Thirai. Further highlighting his controversial remarks, Vivek said that the line was not widely known until actor Vijay used it in his speech. His remarks sparked outrage on social media, with the video of his speech going viral, and he was also condemned by admirers of the late great actor Sivaji Ganesan.

On April 16, 2021, Vivek developed breathing difficulties and chest tightness and was rushed to SIMS Hospital in Chennai after falling unconscious at home. Doctors determined that he was in critical condition and found that his left anterior descending artery was 100% blocked by blood clots, leading to congestive heart failure. On April 17, 2021, he died at the hospital after undergoing angioplasty at the age of 59.
Vivek was given a state funeral at his home in Virugambakkam in Chennai, attended by a large number of people. Vivek had received Bharat Biotech's Covaxin a day before the attack and advocated for COVID-19 vaccination. The National Human Rights Commission ruled that there was no link between the vaccine and his heart attack, but that it was caused by high blood pressure. Vivek's funeral was held in Chennai with great state ceremony.
