Left-handed batsman Tilak Varma is an Indian international cricketer and also a spin bowler. He played his first international match for India against West Indies on 3 August 2023. He is an Indian Premier League (IPL) player for Mumbai Indians and a domestic cricketer for Hyderabad.

On 30 December 2018, he made his debut for Hyderabad in the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy. He scored 215 runs at a strike rate of 147.26 in seven matches of the tournament. On 28 February 2019, he made his debut for Hyderabad in the 2018–19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

On 28 September 2019, he made his A-League debut for Hyderabad in the 2019–20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He took four wickets and scored 180 runs in five matches in the tournament.

In December 2019, he was selected in India’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020 squad. In the six matches he played, he scored only 86 runs.

In five matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021-22, he scored 180 runs and picked up four wickets.

Indian Premier League

In February 2022, he was acquired by the Mumbai Indians at the 2022 Indian Premier League auction. The Mumbai Indians acquired him for Rs 1.7 crore, with a base price of Rs 20 lakh. In the first match of the league at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, he played a 33-ball 61 against Rajasthan Royals.

In the first match of the 2023 Indian Premier League against Royal Challengers Bangalore in April 2023, he scored 84 runs off 46 balls. In the playoff match against Gujarat Titans, he scored 43 runs off just 14 balls.

International career

In July 2023, he was selected for the Indian cricket team for the first time during the tour of West Indies for the T20I series. He made his T20I debut in the first match of the series held on August 3, 2023. He scored 39 runs in just 22 deliveries, setting a new record for the Indian team and taking two catches in the same match.

On 6 August 2023, in the second Twenty20 match against the West Indies, he scored his first fifty in an international match. He became the second youngest Indian to score fifty in a men’s T20I match after Rohit Sharma. He was also the team’s highest run scorer during the tour.

Besides, he has been selected as part of India’s squad for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou and the three-match T20I tour of Ireland.

On September 15, 2023, he played his first ODI match against Bangladesh during the 2023 Asia Cup.
