In October 2018, he was selected for the India A team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy.
He was bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2014 Indian Premier League auction and played there for four seasons.
Rajasthan Royals signed him in the IPL auction in January 2018. In the Indian Premier League on April 30, 2019, he scored a hat-trick against Royal Challengers Bangalore, including AB de Villiers, Marcus Stoinis and Virat Kohli. In the fastest IPL match ever, Shreyas Gopal scored a hat-trick.
In February 2022, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the 2022 Indian Premier League auction.
In the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, Mumbai Indians bought him again.
