Early Career
In 2015, Danu entered the Indian Football Federation’s elite academy under Bibiano Fernandes and was selected to represent India at youth level. At the age of 15, he would become the youngest member of the Indian national U-17 team during the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Danu was the youngest player in the Indian team and Portuguese coach Lus Norton de Matos was astounded by his maturity and dribbling skills at such a young age and so he joined the team. After joining the team, Danu suffered an ankle injury and so the coach decided not to include him in the final 21-man squad.
Danu did not even register for the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship qualifiers due to injury. However, later on India qualified for the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship and he became a part of the U-16 team and played in the exhibition match. Danu could not be included in the final squad for the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship as the tournament required participating players to be born after January 1, 2002 and registered for the qualifiers. If a player had not registered for the qualifiers, they must have been born after September 1, 2002. Unfortunately, Rohit Danu was born on July 10, 2002. He did not participate in the qualifiers due to injury and therefore was ineligible for the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship.
