Randhir Kapoor’s Marriage

Randhir Kapoor’s Marriage

Randhir Kapoor reasoned that Babita should sign up for a movie in which he also has a role because she is an actor. This was the only way Randhir could meet the Kapoor family and introduce his true love. When it came to hiring Babita as the lead heroine in the 1971 movie Kal Aaj Aur Kal Raj Kapoor had no problems doing so. Raj Kapoor originally couldn’t agree with the plan to make Babita Kapoor Khandan’s bahu though.

The Kapoors caved after realizing how much their son loved Babita but only under the condition that she gives up performing after getting married. Babita had followed the patriarchal norm since she was madly in love with Randhir. Finally on November 6 1971 at the Kapoor residence Randhir and Babita were united in marriage in a Punjabi ceremony. The marriage between Babita and Randhir Kapoor was going perfectly. Even though Babita gave up acting to wed the love of her life her marriage to him and her in-laws never suffered as a result. Their first child Karisma Kapoor was born in 1974 when Randhir’s career was also doing well. For the following few years everything went according to plan; nevertheless Randhir’s career had begun to decline and by the 1980s none of his movies were performing well at the box office.

The problems had mostly begun in 1981 with the birth of their second child Kareena Kapoor as the couple’s relationship had begun to suffer as a result of their financial difficulties. Randhir Kapoor was labeled as a flop hero by the middle of the 1980s. He had already developed an alcohol problem and had stopped taking his acting career seriously by that point. Finally Babita and Randhir chose to end their relationship in 1987. The news had gone viral upsetting the media and had spread like wildfire.

In her apartment Babita had remained behind with Karisma and Kareena. For the following few years Babita maintained her strength rather than complaining about her broken marriage.Even though there was optimism for reconciliation in 2007 19 years of separation was a long time given how much Babita and Randhir’s personalities and outlooks on life had changed. Although Randhir and Babita continue to live apart their animosity has lessened. Due in large part to their daughters Karisma and Kareena they frequently cross paths.
