Raghubir Yadav is an Indian actor, music composer, singer and set designer working in Hindi films. He made his screen debut in the film Maasai Sahib playing the eponymous character. He won two international awards for his performance in Maasai Sahib: the International Critics Award at the Venice Film Festival in 1986 and the International Critics Award for Best Actor (Male): Silver Peacock at the 11th International Film Festival of India in 1987. The film also tells the story of a writer and social activist who studied at the National School of Drama in New Delhi until 1977.

He performed with glove puppets at the Rangoli Puppet Theatre in Lucknow (1973-1974). He performed nearly 2,000 shows at the National School of Drama (1977-1986). He also assisted in the creation of music, sets, costumes, and masks.

In the decades that followed, he starred in many landmark films. Three of his films (Good Morning, Mumbai!, Water and Lakshmi Rai) were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Raghubir Yadav is one of the few Indian actors to have won the Silver Peacock Award for Best Actor at the International Film Festival of India. His most notable performance was as the drug-addicted Chillum in Good Morning, Mumbai! (1988). He also starred in Firaaq. In 2011, he starred in the film Dear Friend Hitler, which was inspired by two letters written by Mahatma Gandhi to Adolf Hitler in 1939 (on the eve of World War II) and on Christmas Eve 1940 (after the war began), both to prevent and end the conflict. Raghubir’s television career began with the lead role of Mungerilal in the 1988 television series Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne. The song is a Madhya Pradesh folk song. In ancient times, it would take days to travel from one place to another. People used to sing to ensure the safety of everyone during the journey. This was called “lum tera” singing. The front member/group of the caravan would sing loudly (lambi ter) and the members/groups behind would sing along to ensure contact. He sang “Bhagan ke Rekhan ki bahangiya” in the movie Issaq. Raghubir once again showcased his skills.

In 2020, he essayed the role of Brij Bhusan Dubey in the hit web series Panchayat, which has successfully aired for two seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
