Pratap Pothen Biography

Indian actor and director Pratap Pothen appeared in around 100 movies and also produced 12 of them. He appeared in Hindi Tamil Telugu and Malayalam movies. He also worked as a film producer and scriptwriter.

Pratap acted with the Madras Players. Pratap was asked to act in the Malayalam movie Aravam by the late director Bharathan because of his admiration for his work in Shaw’s play Androcles and the Lion.As a result of my debut movie for which I received a Filmfare Award I continued to receive assignments and offers.

Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad was also used for some of the scenes. The 1965 movie with the same name serves as the inspiration for the name Aayirathil Oruvan. The Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has reportedly received a complaint from Malayalam-Tamil actor Jayaram accusing actor and director Prathap Pothen of insulting him and his son Kalidas on Facebook.

Due to his belief that Pratap Pothen’s remarks have confused his supporters and the audience Jayaram has stated that he does not intend to pursue the case through the judicial system and instead wants to work with the Association to find a solution.

In response to Jayaram’s allegation AMMA has urged actor Nedumudi Venu who is friends with Pratap Pothen to handle the matter. After initial discussions with both actors AMMA will take further action.The renowned director and performer sparked a debate in the industry when he referred to Jayaram as an uncultured man without stating his name but by giving the audience enough hints that he was alluding to the Malayalam movie star.

Pratap Pothen later explained why he felt compelled to criticize Jayaram after sharing his thoughts online for several hours.Pothen declared he wants to cast Kalidas Jayaram’s son in a Malayalam film. Pothen learned about Kalidas from the film’s producers and the actor later requested that he phone Kalidas. Later Jayaram stated that he will discuss the subject with his son because he is pleased with the producers.

After three days passed with no response from Jayaram Pothen called him again and was shocked by how Jayaram answered.

Since this was going to be my second Malayalam performance I was patient and waited two days. After three days I called him and he informed me that my son would be busy until October of the next year. I then asked him whether he would like to hear the story and he said that he did not want to collaborate with the previous director Pratap Pothen as posted on his Facebook profile.
