Prabh Deep’s Biography
Prabhdeep Singh, an Indian rapper, songwriter and music producer from New Delhi, India, also known by his stage name Prabh Deep, rose to fame in the Indian music industry after his debut album Class-Sikh was released, which peaked at number 2 on the iTunes Indian Albums Chart and quickly rose to number 1 by the end of the year.
Indian MC Prabh Deep is from New Delhi. With a unique voice that incorporates elements of traditional Punjabi folk singers, Prabh has been a leading figure in Delhi’s hip-hop movement. In addition to being a recording artist, he also promotes and curates MC competitions around the city.
Born and brought up in Tilak Nagar, Prabhu’s songs are full of self-awareness, vividly describing his experiences growing up in a community still reeling from the 1984 riots, and his experiences coping with the loss of friends and loved ones.

Prabh Deep’s Family
Prabhu Deep’s father was named Manmohan Singh. Small business owner Jaswinder Kaur lived in Tilak Nagar area of West Delhi. He lost his father Manmohan Singh and four brothers in a massacre by angry mobs during the 1984 Nangroi Jat Delhi riots, allegedly with the help of the Delhi Police and the Indian National Congress party.
Despite Prabhu Deep’s birth in 1993, Manmohan suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and became addicted to drugs. As a result, Jaswinder Prabhu Deep’s mother used the money she earned from her hair salon to support the family.

Due to the inefficiency of the Indian education system, Prabhu Deep decided to drop out of school before his final exams of grade 12. His mother agreed with his decision to drop out of school and pursue a career in music.
Prabhu Deep’s career
Later, due to the family’s growing financial difficulties and bullying at school, Prabhu Deep joined a street gang and engaged in menial occupations such as street fighting and reselling second-hand mobile phones and motorcycles at a markup, as well as acting as a middleman for money lenders.
Before pursuing a full-time music career, he worked as a call center supervisor for three years and briefly as a salesman at a clothing store. In the summer of 2008, Prabh Deep and his childhood friend Happu (now a rapper) saw a dance team performing stunts in a park. Inspired by this urban dance style, he and Happu joined a hip-hop dance club in the nearby neighborhood of Vikaspuri and honed their street dance skills over the next few years. Prabh Deep slowly transitioned from a dancer to an MC while working as a call center supervisor and salesman, all the while staying close to the Delhi hip-hop scene.
Rapper Zan Twoshadez and hip-hop maven Jaspal Singh took Prabh Deep to open mic nights and other similar events in Delhi, which became the starting point for his rhyming career. Prabh Deep and independent music producer Sez on the Beat started working together in 2015 after they met on Facebook. Sez signed him to independent record label Azadi Records. Sez’s home studio was used to produce Class-Full Sikh’s self-titled debut album.
Prabh Deep made his Bollywood debut with the song “Sherni” for Anurag Kashyap’s 2018 drama Manmarziyaan. He also composed and sang the song “Toofan Main” for the soundtrack of Amazon Prime’s crime drama Paatal Lok.
KING Prabh Deep’s self-produced EP was released in 2019. He released his second album Tabia in 2021. This is Pitchfork’s first review of an Indian hip-hop album. He released his third album Bhram in 2022.
