Dilip Kumar was born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on December 11, 1922 in Peshawar, British India, now known as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Since 1966, he has been married to Saira Banu.

Dilip Kumar made his acting debut in 1944 with the film Jwar Bhata. However, the film did not catch anyone’s attention. He gained fame with the 1947 film Jugnu, in which he co-starred with Noor Jehan. The film was considered Kumar’s first major box office success. Since then, he has worked in many successful films such as Shaheed, Andaz, Jogan, Deedar, Devdas, Daag, Yehudi and Madhumati.
