Kranti which translates to Revolution is a 1981 Indian historical drama movie that Manoj Kumar produced and directed. Salim-Javed wrote the story and the screenplay for the movie. Dilip Kumar who plays the title role is joined by Manoj Kumar Shashi Kapoor Shatrughan Sinha Hema Malini and Parveen Babi in key roles by the film’s ensemble cast. When ticket price inflation is taken into account it is among the top ten biggest-grossing Indian movies of all time. When adjusted for inflation it became by far the top-grossing Indian movie of the 1980s decade. It was one of the most expensive Indian movies at the time. The greatest Indian patriotic film ever is Kranti. After Sholay it was the second-highest-grossing Indian movie of all time.

The story of the struggle for independence from the British between 1825 and 1875 is told in the movie which is set in 19th-century British India. The story of Sanga (Dilip Kumar) Bharat (Manoj Kumar) also known as Kranti a prince (Shashi Kapoor) and a freedom warrior is told in the movie (Shatrughan Sinha). Sanga is a trustworthy and devoted worker for the Ramgarh kingdom and his only allegiance and loyalty is to Raja Laxman Singh. When Laxman Singh grants the British a limited license to use the port for business Sangha discovers that the British are bringing in and taking out gold and jewelry as well as ammunition and stops them.

He finds Laxman Singh dead after going to tell him about this injustice. Sanga is accused of treason and the murder of Laxman Singh. After being given a death sentence he escapes and gathers a group of rebels with the sole purpose of expelling the British from India. With the common goal of an independent India also known as Kranti this group multiplies into numerous armies. The movie is well-known for featuring a naked Parveen Babi.
