American actor Macaulay Culkin has an estimated net worth of $15 million. The most successful child actor since Shirley Temple, Macaulay Culkin first stepped onto the New York stage at the age of four. Trained extensively for his craft, including a stint with the Balanchine School of the American Ballet, young Culkin became a familiar TV-advertising face and appeared in numerous film supporting roles, best known as John Candy’s inquisitive nephew in Uncle Buck (1989).
After an unbilled cameo role in Jacob’s Ladder (1990) and before appearing in a Michael Jackson video, Culkin was cast as the teenage protagonist of Home Alone, a Three Stooges-esque blend of violent spectacle and sentimental emotion that would become the highest-grossing film of 1990. Culkin thus became the highest-paid child actor of all time and one of the few actors under the age of 13 who could be cast to open a film. Two more blockbusters followed: My Girl (1991) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). At the time, the boy’s career was under the strict control of his father, Christopher “Kit” Culkin, a former actor who also managed the careers of Culkin’s younger, equally photogenic siblings, and stories began to emerge from Hollywood about the elder Culkin’s on-set behavior.
Culkin married actress Rachel Miner in 1998, a few months before he turned 18, but the couple separated in 2000. The former child actor resurfaced in 2002 in documentary filmmakers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato’s first feature film, Party Monster, the true story of the rise and fall of a young club promoter.
