American actor Lloyd Bridges had an estimated net worth of $15 million. Born on January 15, 1913, in San Leandro, California, Lloyd Vernet Bridges graduated from Petaluma High School in 1931 and went on to UCLA with a degree in political science.
Bridges was a successful actor, appearing in numerous television series and over 150 feature films. He is best remembered for playing Mike Nelson, a square-jawed frog man, in the underwater adventure series, Sea Hunt.
Lloyd Bridges made his acting debut in the 1939 Broadway production of Othello. He also appeared in off-Broadway productions before signing with Columbia Pictures. He appeared in several projects for the production company, including Here Comes Mr. Jordan and Talk of the Town. He also appeared in the cult science-fiction film Rocketshop ZM.
Because of his radicalism and suspected anti-American tendencies, Lloyd was banned from making Hollywood films. He resorted to making television projects and was successful with his performance in Sea Hunt which made him both a star and a millionaire. He then appeared in The Lloyd Bridges Show but it was never as successful as Sea Hunt.
Bridges became a part of the cast of Airplane! which brought back audiences with his quirky style of comedy. He then found success in comic roles in the sequels Airplane II, Joe vs. the Volcano, and two Hot Shots films.
In addition to acting, Lloyd Bridges was an environmentalist who campaigned on green issues. He was also active in the American Ocean Campaign and Los Angeles’ “Heal the Bay” campaign. He died of natural causes on March 10, 1998.
