Laxmikant Berde was an Indian Marathi film actor who appeared in a number of Marathi and Hindi films. He was well-known for his high-energy slapstick routines. Berde began his career as an employee of the Marathi Sahitya Sangh production company before moving on to play supporting roles in a few Marathi stage plays. In 1983-84 he rose to prominence with the Marathi play Tur Tur.
Aside from Marathi films he was also successful with comedy stage plays such as Shantecha Karta Chalu Aahe and Bighadale Swargache Dwaar. Berde appeared in numerous Bollywood films and received four Filmfare Award nominations for Best Performance in a Comic Role. He appeared in approximately 185 Hindi and Marathi films.

Laxmikant Berde’s net worth is $1-5 Million at the time of his death. He was a prolific actor and appeared in more than 350 films in a career spanning over two decades. Berde was known for his impeccable comic timing and was considered one of the finest comedians in the Marathi film industry.
Apart from acting Berde was also involved in various other ventures including producing and directing films. He was also a popular stage performer and appeared in numerous plays during his career.
Laxmikant Berde died on December 16 2004 in Mumbai of a kidney ailment. Many prominent Marathi film industry figures including Mahesh Kothare Ashok Saraf and Sachin Pilgaonkar attended his funeral. In his final years Berde ran his own production company ‘Abhinay Arts ‘ named after his son Abhinay Berde. Berde was an accomplished ventriloquist and guitarist.
Laxmikant Berde was a veteran Indian actor who appeared in films in both Hindi and Marathi. He was a well-known Marathi theatre artist in addition to being an actor.
Berde came from a middle-class family and grew up in a chawl. He used to sell lottery tickets as a child because his family’s financial situation was poor.

He used to perform in naataks at the Konkanast Samaj Ganesh Festival in his neighbourhood and this sparked his interest in acting.
He used to win awards in various acting competitions while in high school and intercollege.
Later he began working at the Mumbai Marathi Sahitya Sangh in Maharashtra where he used to pull the curtains during the auditorium’s theatre plays. He decided to pursue a career as a theatre artist after watching actors perform on stage.
While he was working there a stage play director approached him about a part in a play. He accepted the offer and went on to play minor roles in various Marathi theatre productions.
In 1983 he received a significant role in the Marathi theatre play ‘Tur Tur ‘ directed by Indian playwright Purshottam Berde.
He later appeared in plays such as ‘Shantecha Karta Chalu Aahe ‘ ‘Karti Premat Padli ‘ and ‘Uchalbangadi.’
