Lakshya Sen is an outstanding Indian badminton player known for her versatility and success at junior and senior levels. Early life and family

Lakshya Sen was born on August 16, 2001 in Almora district of Uttarakhand to parents Nirmala Sen and Dhirendra Sen. Later his family moved to Bangalore to support his growing badminton career. Lakshya was born into a family with a rich badminton tradition. He is a third generation badminton player. His grandfather, Chandra Lal Sen, and father, Dhirendra Sen, were both badminton players. His elder brother Chirag Sen is also a professional badminton player, making the sport a family legacy.

Lakshya Sen is coached by Vimal Kumar and former badminton legend Prakash Padukone is his mentor. His fitness coach is Paddy Upton, who oversees his fitness training. To improve performance and recovery, Lakshya follows a strict regimen that includes ice baths, steam and sauna, massage and joint mobilization exercises as part of her daily routine. This comprehensive approach is designed to keep him in top form during games and tournaments.

Profession

Lakshya Sen began his badminton journey at the age of ten when he approached his coach Vimal Kumar with a handwritten note eager to improve his game. He quickly rose through the ranks and in 2014 won the Swiss Junior International Championship. In 2016, Sen won a bronze medal at the Asian Junior Championships and later went on to win the title in the senior tour of the India International Series.

In 2017, Sen reached the quarter-finals of the Vietnam Open and became the world’s number one junior player. His big break came in 2018 when he defeated Kunlavut Vitidsarn to win the Asian Junior Championship. That same year, he won a silver medal at the Youth Olympics and a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships.

In 2019, Sen won the Belgian International, Dutch Open and Saar Loreux Open, marking his rise in the adult badminton world. He continued his success, winning a bronze medal at the 2021 World Championships and winning his first Super 500 title at the 2022 India Open.

Laksha played a vital role in India’s historic Thomas Cup victory in 2022 and later became a Commonwealth Games champion. In 2023, he won the Canadian Open and contributed to India’s silver medal win at the Asian Games.
