Jitendra is a legendary Indian actor. He was born on 7 April 1942 in Amritsar, India. Jitendra was born into a Punjabi family. He was born into a family of merchants who specialized in artificial jewellery. While delivering jewellery for V. Shantaram, he played the double of Sandhya in the film Navrang.

Jeetendra entered Bollywood in the late 1950s when film producer V. Shantaram offered him a role opposite actress Sandhya in the film Navrang, but his first big break came when Shantaram cast him in the lead role in the film Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne. He has since acted in more than 200 films.

Jitendra rose to fame in 1967 with the Ravikant Nagaich film Farz, which became a highlight of his career. The white shoes and T-shirt he chose for the song “Mast Baharon Ka Main Aashiq” in Farz became his trademark. His energetic dance in films like Banphool and Farz earned him the nickname “Jumping Jack”.

In the 1980s, Jeetendra often collaborated with Jayapradha or Sridevi, reproducing the works of South Indian popular writers such as K. Bapayya, Rama Rao Tatineni and K. Raghavendra Rao; some of these films were directed by Padmalaya Productions. Films such as Mawaali, Justice Chaudhry, Jaani Dost, Himmatwala and Tohfa, featuring ornate pottery scenes, dozens of ornaments, lyrics by Indeewar and music by Bappi Lahiri, were successful despite poor critical reception.

Jeetendra was recently seen in a famous TV serial, Kunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. He is also a judge on the Indian dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, which airs on Sony TV.

Jitendra’s childhood was spent in Girgam, Mumbai. He lived in Ramachandra, a middle-class neighborhood. He still relishes the memories there and often visits it every year during Ganesha festival. In her official biography, Hema Malini admitted that they almost got married but she later backed out. He later married his childhood friend Shobha Kapoor, with whom he has a son, also a famous Bollywood actor, and a daughter, named Ekta Kapoor, who owns Balaji Telefilms. They have produced famous television serials in Tamil, Hindi and other regional languages. They have also produced five Bollywood films, two of which starred Tushar Kapoor.
