Jason Roy’s career

Jason Roy: Domestic career

On 27 June 2008, Jason Roy made his debut for Surrey in the Twenty20 Cup against Middlesex Cricket Club. A week later, on 20 July 2008, the day before his 18th birthday, he made his debut for the A-grade team in the Natwest Pro40 League against Yorkshire.

Due to his inconsistent performances, he was dropped from the first team and did not return until 2010. He immediately became Surrey’s first T20 century when he scored 101 off 57 balls against Kent at Beckenham. Later that summer, he made his Championship debut against Leicestershire and scored an unbeaten 76 off 65 balls.

However, Roy’s rise to the top was fuelled by the 2014 season. The highest scorer in the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast was achieved by Roy, who scored 677 runs at an average of 48.35.

Jason Roy: IPL Career

In 2017 and 2018, Jason Roy played for Gujarat Lions and Delhi Dadevil in the Indian Premier League respectively. However, the following year, Jason Roy decided to retire from the game due to the preparations for the World Cup.

In 2018, the Capitals (formerly Daredevils) acquired Roy for Rs 15 million, but he was released during the 2019 season. Roy played five matches for the Capitals, scoring 120 runs at a strike rate of 127.65; 91 of those runs came in his first two innings, while only 29 came in his next four innings.

In the recent auction, Delhi Capitals bought him back for the same price. However, Roy has opted out of the season due to personal reasons and Daniel Sams will play in his place.

Jason Roy: International career

Jason Roy: Test career

Roy’s white-ball skills are no secret, but his red-ball strategy has often been questioned. In preparation for the 2019 Ashes, the England selection committee threw their full weight behind Roy, who made his Test debut against Ireland.

His average in four England-Australia Ashes Tests was just 13.75, with a top score of 31. When he dropped to No. 4 and was dropped before the final Test at the Oval, his confidence seemed to have been damaged.

Jason Roy: ODI Career

Jason Roy came in because England needed an immediate fix after their disastrous World Cup defeat in 2015. The right-handed batsman could get the team off to a fast start while still playing cricket in the way it was in the early 21st century.

On 8 May 2015, Roy made his debut against Ireland. In June 2015, he was again selected for England in the five-match series against New Zealand. The match was still a defeat for the sprinter, but he had shown his quality. In 2016, Roy and Alex Hales set the best score of 256 without losing a single run in ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Jason Roy was a major factor in turning around England’s fortunes, taking them from the brink of defeat to winning the tournament at home in CWC 2019. The Surrey cricketer had a brilliant debut in the tournament, hitting a fifty and a fifty against South Africa and Bangladesh respectively, but later missed the next two matches due to a hamstring injury.

England lost those games and elimination from the World Cup, as they had in 2015, seemed inevitable. Although Roy showed little sign of recovery, he was hastily recalled to the team and hit three typical half-centuries (66, 60 and 85) and three centuries in partnership with the equally prolific Jonny Bastow in what were essentially knockout games against India, New Zealand and Australia.

Jason Roy: T20I Career

Jason Roy was called up to the England squad for the first time for a T20 match against India in September 2014. Roy was selected for England’s 2016 T20 World Cup squad, but he performed poorly in the first match of the tournament as the team lost to the West Indies.

After a slow start, Jason Roy came on to bat in the semi-final against New Zealand and scored a quick 78 on the wicket of Feroze Shah Kotla to help England advance to the final against the West Indies. However, Roy failed to score a single run in the championship match, as England eventually lost to the West Indies.

Jason Roy Controversy

England opener Jason Roy has been fined £2,500 and banned from playing two international cricket matches for defaming the sport of cricket.

Roy will be banned from playing in England’s next two cricket matches for a year as a result of his actions. The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the sanction in a statement on Tuesday, but did not explain the specific details of the hearing or the fine.

The Cricket Disciplinary Committee sentenced Jason Roy after he agreed to plead guilty to a charge that he had breached England Cricket Board Directive 3.3 and that his conduct was prejudicial to the interests of cricket or likely to bring the England Cricket Board and himself into contempt.

The 31-year-old is a white-ball expert and has played 98 ODIs as an opening batsman at an average of 40.19. The Twenty20 series against West Indies in January this year was Roy’s last appearance for England. He will be hoping to be selected for the ODI series against the Netherlands in June this year.
