Having been on screen for nearly a decade when he starred in director Kevin Macdonald’s The Last King of Scotland, Glasgow-born actor James McAvoy seemed like an overnight sensation to many. However, the fact is that the former student of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama had already laid the foundations for a lasting career by the time he was tasked with holding his own opposite the formidable – and eventual Oscar winner – Forest Whitaker.
McAvoy’s parents divorced when he was just seven years old.
