He attended Miami Dade College’s New World School of the Arts for two years and later joined Group 29 of the Juilliard School’s Drama Division between 1996 and 2000 and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Howerton landed his first screen role in the 2002 made-for-television movie Monday Night Mayhem.
