American actor Christopher David “Chris” Noth has an estimated net worth of $15.5 million. A veteran film and television personality, Chris Noth is perhaps best known for his work on Law & Order and HBO’s Sex and the City, the latter of which featured him as the charming but untrustworthy Mr. Big, the ex-boyfriend/vice of the series’ heroine Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).
Noth, who hails from Madison, Wisconsin, was born on November 13, 1954. As a child, he moved around a lot in England, Yugoslavia and Spain. Upon returning to the US, he studied under renowned acting coach Stanford Meisner, after which he got admission to the prestigious Yale School of Drama.
Noth got his start on stage and television performing at the American Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, CT, and appeared in productions with theater companies around the country, including the Manhattan Theatre Club and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. He began working in television in 1982 and appeared in a number of shows before breaking into film with small roles in Off Beat (1986) and the Diane Keaton comedy Baby Boom (1987).
Noth’s big break came in 1989 when he was cast to play Detective Mike Logan on Law & Order. Noth played the young policeman for five seasons, garnering praise from both critics and fans, many of whom were unhappy that his contract for Law & Order was not renewed in 1995.
Noth continued to work on television and did small parts in films such as Naked in New York (1994) before getting his next big break in the form of Sex and the City (1998). As Big, he was one of the few male characters who could hold their own in the presence of the series’ strong female protagonists played by Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis. The show proved to be a huge critical and commercial hit, earning Noth more fans and more work in the process. In addition to his role in the series, he was also seen on the big screen, in Cast Away (2000) alongside Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt and in Leelee Sobieski’s 2001 thriller The Glass House.
