Bajrang Punia’s Biography
Bajrang Punia was born on 26 February 1994 and is an Indian freestyle wrestler. Bajrang Punia’s real name is Bajrang Balvan Punia. Bajrang Punia was born in Khudan village in Jhajjar district in Haryana. He started wrestling at the age of seven and his father always encouraged him to participate in sports. Punia grew up in a small town. His family lacked traditional sports resources. Bajrang’s zodiac sign is Pisces. Bajrang Punia believes in Hinduism. Bajrang Punia’s hobby is dancing.
Punia’s father was also a wrestler, so Punia’s family sent him to a nearby mud wrestling school when he was still young. He began to miss classes to attend wrestling training. He competed in 65 weight classes. Punia defeated Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov 8-0 to win the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Punia is the only Indian wrestler to have won three medals at the World Wrestling Championships. In 2008, he visited the Chhatsar Stadium under the guidance of Ramfar Mann. His family moved to Sonipat in 2015 for him to attend a regional centre of the Sports Authority of India. He currently works as a sports department officer in the Indian Railways. At the age of 14, Punia enrolled in mud wrestling classes at a nearby school. He was introduced to Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt, who became his mentor as well as his sparring partner.

2013 Asian Wrestling Championships
In the 16th round of the competition held in New Delhi, India, he faced Japanese player Shogo Maeda and defeated his opponent 3-1. In the quarterfinals, he faced Iranian player Morad Hassan and won 3-1 to advance to the semifinals. In the men’s 60kg freestyle competition, North Korean player Hwang Yong-hak defeated Bajrang 3-1 in the semifinals. Hwang Yong-hak won the bronze medal.
2013 World Wrestling Championships
Bajran defeated Mongolian Enkhsayhani Niam-Ozir 9-2 to win the bronze medal in the men’s freestyle 60kg event in Budapest, Hungary. In the round of 32, he faced Bulgarian Vladimir Dubov, who defeated him 7-0. Bajran then faced Japanese player Shogo Maeda, who was eliminated. His next opponent was Romanian Ivan Guidia, and after defeating the Romanian 10-3, Bajran qualified for the bronze medal match.
2014 Commonwealth Games
