Babita Shivdasani-Kapoor, popularly known as Babita or Babita Kapoor, is a former Indian actress who worked in Indian films. She is the cousin of Sadhana Shivdasani, daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani. Her breakthrough film was the successful drama Dus Lakh (1966), but it was the romantic thriller Raaz (1967), in which she co-starred with Rajesh Khanna, that really made her famous. From 1966 to 1973, she played the leading lady in 19 films.
After marrying actor Randhir Kapoor in 1971, she acted in Jeet and Ek Hasina Do Diwane (both released in 1972). Her subsequent film Sone Ke Hath (1973) was a disappointment and she chose to quit the film industry. Karishma and Karishma are the couple's two daughters.
As of 2022, Babita Kapoor is 75 years old. Babita Kapoor was born in Karachi on 20 April 1947. Her star sign is Taurus.
Babita Kapoor is a high school graduate.
Babita Shivdasani was born in Karachi to actor Hari Shivdasani, who came from a Sindhi Hindu family and lived in Mumbai before and after the partition of India, and British Christian Barbara Shivdasani. Her elder sister Meena Advani was her clothing designer in the 1960s and played a crucial role in her becoming a fashion icon.
Her elder sister is now the owner of Powermaster Engineers Private Limited and Power-master Tools Private Limited after her marriage. Legendary actress Sadhana Shivdasani is her cousin and a contemporary.
In 1969, Randhir Kapoor was on the sets of the film Sangam with his father Raj Kapoor. Babita was also present and young Randhir was immediately smitten with the wide-eyed beauty. They met on the sets and subsequently began dating on chupke chupke dates. Randhir Kapoor thought it would be ideal if Babita signed a film in which he also acted. This was the only way Randhir could introduce the love of his life to the Kapoors.
On November 6, 1971, Randhir and Babita got married in a Punjabi ceremony at the Kapoor residence. In 1981, their second child, Kareena Kapoor, was born, and Randhir and Babita's marriage began to have problems. By the mid-1980s, Randhir Kapoor was labeled a failed hero. By then, he had become an alcoholic and had given up his acting career. Finally, in 1987, Babita chose to divorce Randhir. The news spread like wildfire, causing a media frenzy.
In 1988, Babita seriously considered breaking up with Randhir. After Randhir asked him to leave her apartment, Randhir moved in with his parents. Babita continued to live in the apartment with Karisma and Kareena. For the next few years, Babita remained strong and did not complain about her failed marriage. As Babita helped Karisma and Kareena with their careers, she had little contact with Randhir.
However, communication between the two was minimal from the early 2000s onwards and by 2007, 19 years after separation, the estranged life partners had buried their differences and started afresh. Both Karisma and Kareena were looking forward to this moment. Randhir and Babita continued to live separately, although the animosity between them had lessened.
