Anu Prabhakar is an Indian film actress who has appeared primarily in Kannada films and some Tamil films. She was born in Bangalore to MV Prabhakar and Gayathri Prabhakar. She attended Nirmala Rani High School. She is primarily known for her role as a child artist in the Kannada film Chapala Channigraya (1990) and for Shanti Kranti (1991).
Profession
The actress made her film debut in 1999 playing the female lead opposite Shiva Rajkumar in “Hrudaya Hrudaya” and later became the leading lady in Kannada films.
In the late 2000s, she formed a popular team with Ramesh Aravind. She starred in many films with superstar Vishnuvardhan, including Soorappa, Jamindarru, Hrudayavantha, Sahukaara and Varsha. She also starred in 2-3 Tamil films. In 1990, she starred in the English film Dark Jungle Mystery.
She starred in a Kannada film based on the life of 12th-century Kannada poet Akka Mahadevi, in which she played two characters: Jyothi, a girl pursuing a doctorate in poetry, and one of the poets.
Anu Prabhakar dropped out of school when her career as a heroine took off. She later obtained a master’s degree in sociology from Karnataka University through correspondence courses.

Anu Prabhakar was awarded the title of ‘Abhinaya Saraswathi’ by the Kolada Math, Bangalore for her performance in many films. She has received many awards including the ‘Karnataka Government Award for Best Actress 2000-01’.
