In her 40-year career, she has sung songs for more than a thousand films and recorded more than 20,000 songs in various Indian languages. Twenty of her songs were selected by the BBC as the 40 best Bollywood soundtracks of all time.

Alka Yagnik was born in a Gujarati family in Kolkata, India on 20 March 1966. Her age is 56 years old as of 2022. Her zodiac sign is Pisces.
When she was 10, her mother brought her to Bombay to be a child singer. Her mother urged her to wait until her voice matured, but she was persistent. Yagnik received a letter of introduction from Raj Kapoor's Calcutta dealer, which he sent to him during his next visit. Kapoor heard about the girl and wrote her a letter, which he sent to the famous music director Laxmikant.
Lakshmikant offered her two options: start working as a voice actor immediately or become a singer later; Shubha chose the latter for her daughter. Yagnik said she was a smart student but did not like studying.
Alka Yagnik studied at Modern Girls High School in Kolkata.Alka was a bright student but did not like studying.
Her father's name is Dharmendra Shankar. Her mother Shubha is an Indian classical music performer. At the age of six, she started singing on Akashvani (All India Radio) in Kolkata. In 1989, Yagnik married Shillong businessman Neeraj Kapoor and has a daughter named Syesha.
The singer met her love in an unexpected place. In 1986, Alka Yagnik and her mother were travelling to New Delhi by train, and Neeraj Kapoor met them at the station early in the morning. Neeraj was the nephew of an acquaintance of Alka's mother. This was the first time Alka Yagnik and Neeraj Kapoor met.
This meeting started a beautiful friendship and Alka and Neeraj remained in close touch after this trip. Moreover, Neeraj would visit Alka’s house whenever he was in Mumbai on business. Their friendship deepened over time and after six months, the two realized that they had fallen in love.
The two dated for two years and planned to get married. In 1988, Alka Yagnik and Neeraj Kapoor decided to reveal their relationship to their families. However, when they decided to get married, their families expressed great doubts about their decision. One problem was that they came from different professions and another was the physical distance between them.
Even after being apart for more than two decades, Alka Yagnik and Neeraj Kapoor have overcome all challenges that came their way. Not only that, they also respect and support each other’s dreams unconditionally. Even after 25 years, Alka and Neeraj are still happily married and have no regrets about their marriage.
As Iforher said, Alka once mentioned that our marriage can be summed up by the U2 song “I can't live without you.” This marriage is difficult to maintain. But we can't give up on each other.
At the age of six, the classically trained Yagnik began singing bhajans for Akashvani (All India Radio) in Kolkata. Her debut song was for the 2007 film Payal Ki Jhankaar (1980). This was followed by the film Hamari Bahu Alka (1981), which included the song Mere Angane Mein (1982). Her big break was the song Ek Do Teen from the film Tezaab (1988).
She said she had a high fever the day she recorded “Ek Do Teen.” The song won her the first of seven Filmfare Awards for Best Female Dubbing Singer. She has sung in nearly 25 languages and 15 Pakistani songs.

Alka Yagnik accused Anuradha Paudwal of dubbing for her songs without permission. Alka Yagnik lashed out at Paudwal in the July 1997 issue of Filmfare magazine. The report first described how Anuradha Paudwal had dubbed for Alka Yagnik's Itihaas songs “Dil Ki Kalam Se Ye Ishq Bada Bedardi Hai” and “O Ramji”.
In response, Filmfare quoted Alka Yagnik as saying, “What a jerk! Why does Anuradha do this to me over and over again? When she dubbed for my song in Dil, she had an excuse ready: her voice suited Madhuri Dixit better than mine. So what is her excuse now? Will she hint that her voice suits Twinkle Khanna too?”
Alka Yagnik also revealed that the producers had approached her to dub for Anuradha's songs which they did not like, but she flatly refused. She went on to say that she told them to ask Paudwal to re-dub the songs himself.
The magazine said that they tried to contact Anuradha Paudwal for three days but to no avail. Later, they contacted the producer and director of Itihaas, who said that the rights of the film's music had been previously owned by Amitabh Bachchan.
However, due to lack of funds, Alka Yagnik was unable to market the track. The track was then given to Gulshan Kumar, who quickly promoted it. However, he also ensured that at least one singer dubbed the song.
According to reports, Alka's net worth is around INR 30 crore.
