Dangal (2016)

The 2016 Indian biographical sports drama film Dangal was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, produced by Aamir Khan Kiran Rao and Siddharth Roy Kapur, and distributed by Walt Disney India. Khan plays Mahavir Singh Phogat, a Bhawani amateur wrestler who trains his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become India’s first elite female wrestlers.

The 2017 Hindi musical film Secret Superstar was written and directed by Advait Chandan and produced by Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao. Raj Arjun Meher Vij Zaira Wasim and Aamir Khan all star in the film. The film is about the coming of age of a young woman who wants to be a singer and posts videos of herself singing on YouTube while wearing a veil to hide her identity. The film also explores her relationship with her mother, father and mentor.

The film explores social themes including feminism, gender equality and domestic violence. Most critics gave the film a favorable review. The National Child Award for Outstanding Achievement was given to Wasim. The Sky Is Pink is a 2019 Hindi-language biographical romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Shonali Bose. The film is jointly produced by Priyanka Chopra, Jonas, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under their respective production companies Purple Pebble Pictures, RSVP Movies and Roy Kapur Films.

Based on the true story of Aisha Chaudhary, who suffered from severe combined immunodeficiency and pulmonary fibrosis, the film stars Priyanka Chopra, Jonas Farhan Akhtar Zaira Wasim and Rohit Suresh Saraf. The film follows her parents Aditi and Niren as they juggle their marriage while taking care of their daughter’s illness.

Pritam composed the music for the film, while Gulzar wrote the lyrics. The film explores issues such as the grief of a mother’s love, the impact of losing a child on relationships (especially the relationship between parents), and death and accepting it.

The film had its world premiere at the 44th Toronto International Film Festival on September 13 and was released to the public on October 11 of the same year. The Sky Pink received positive reviews, praising Bose’s writing and directing abilities as well as the actors’ performances.
