Wycliffe “Wyc” Grousbeck is an influential American businessman and sports team owner, best known as the majority owner/governor of the NBA franchise Boston Celtics. Born on June 13, 1961 in Worcester Massachusetts, Grousbeck made waves in both the business and sports worlds; from academia to professional sports ownership, his journey demonstrates both his business acumen and passion for the game he loves so much.
Grousbeck's education provided the foundation for his business success. In 1983, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Princeton University while also serving on the school's undefeated lightweight crew team; then at Michigan, where he earned both a J.D. In 2002, Grousbeck founded Boston Basketball Partners LLC and led their acquisition for $360 million using his passion and vision to revive one of the NBA's most storied franchises – winning consecutive titles under their ownership (2008-2024) to further solidify Grousbeck as the NBA's most storied franchise. In addition to basketball, Grousbeck also stepped outside the conventional competitive arena to diversify his business interests. Started as President of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (ME&EI) in 2010, led a successful $250 million capital campaign and oversaw integration into the Mass General Brigham health system; then co-founded Causeway Media Partners managing over $330 million while investing in sports media/tech companies with his ventures reflecting a deep interest in both impact of technology as well as contributions made elsewhere in society (such as healthcare).
Grousbeck has made significant efforts in supporting charitable activities in recent times. He led important fundraising campaigns for the health care sector, especially for blindness and deafness research, with significant contributions from his family providing resources for Grousbeck Hall at the University Princeton opened in 2022 as a testament to its dedication to education as an alma mater and its support of education in general.
Grousbeck enjoys both an active personal and professional life. In 2017, he married Emilia Fazzalari and together they ventured into the beverage business through Cincoro Tequila with NBA owners like Michael Jordan as partners.
