Sushant Singh Rajput’s Biography

Sushant Singh Rajput was an Indian film actor best recognized for his performances in Hindi. He appeared in several financially successful Hindi films including M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016) Kedarnath (2018) and Chhichhore (2017). (2019). He got a Screen Award and was nominated for three Filmfare Awards for his contributions to the cinema business. Since 2017 he has appeared thrice on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list.

Rajput began his acting career after abandoning his engineering studies at the Delhi College of Engineering to work in the Mumbai theatre scene. He went on to appear in Hindi television serials beginning with the romantic drama Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2008) and ending with the lead part in the soap opera Pavitra Rishta (2009–2011). He made his film debut with the commercial and critical success of the film adaptation Kai Po Che! (2013). Following that he starred in the romantic comedy Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and as the titular detective in the action thriller Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015).

Ankita Lokhande

During a national broadcast of the dancing competition show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in 2011 Rajput publicly proposed to his Pavitra Rishta co-star Ankita Lokhande; both had competed in the show as competing candidates. They started dating after meeting on the set of Pavitra Rishta where they were cast as husband and wife to each other. They began living together in 2012 and reports of their impending marriage appeared in the media on occasion. Rajput remarked in an interview that marriage and cohabitation were not different and that it was hypocritical to treat the former as sacred while the latter as a criminal.

The couple disputed rumors in 2014 that they were already secretly married due to familial pressure. Rajput stated in January 2016 that a spectacular wedding would take place in December but the relationship terminated before that with the couple remaining silent on the reasons for the cancellation. Lokhande stated in a 2021 interview that Rajput wanted to advance in his career and that they dissolved their relationship willingly.

Kriti Sanon

Rajput’s dating status became the topic of conjecture and scandal following the separation. He was rumored to be dating his Raabta co-star Kriti Sanon which both of them refuted. Actress Lizaa Malik said that while late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and actress Kriti Sanon denied dating each other they were in a relationship and were happy together.

Lizaa had a professional interaction with Sushant and claims to have witnessed the happiness in his relationship with Kriti during a birthday party. Kriti and Sushant have never confirmed or denied their relationship. In the 2017 film ‘Raabta ‘ the two actors co-starred.

Sara Ali Khan

He was the target of another rumour in 2018 involving his Kedarnath co-star Sara Ali Khan. The rumours were never confirmed because Rajput declined to comment on them before the two allegedly broke up.

But Sara Ali Khan has revealed that she had a brief relationship with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She even alleged that he was unfaithful to her during their brief relationship. According to PeepingMoon.com Sara discussed her relationship with Sushant and also chatted with NCB officers during her interrogation. According to NCB sources Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput split up in 2019.

Rhea Chakraborty

Later that year it was revealed that he was seeing actress Rhea Chakraborty and that they planned to keep their relationship secret. When questioned he allegedly accidentally revealed the relationship by responding that if interviewers asked simply about him he could answer at his discretion but he would also have to ask someone before confirming any information. Chakraborty and Rajput were observed on dates and outings in Mumbai as well as on a vacation to the Himalayan region of Ladakh.

Chakraborty acknowledged after Rajput’s death that she was his girlfriend and that he would forgo medication in favor of yoga and meditation. Rhea and Sushant were dating and had supposedly planned to marry by the end of 2020 when tragedy struck. On June 14 2020 Sushant was found dead in his Bandra apartment. Rhea had made her relationship with Sushant Insta-official earlier that year on January 21 2020. Sushant Singh Rajput’s Career

While working at the Prithvi Theatre he was seen by a Balaji Telefilms casting crew. In 2008 Rajput was invited for an audition and appointed as the second lead in the television series Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil. He was cast as Preet Singh Juneja the stepbrother of the lead Harshad Chopda in the eighth episode of the show. The character was killed early in the show but due to his popularity among viewers he was brought back in the series finale as a ghost watching his family celebrate their triumph over adversity. The performance had made an impression on producer Ekta Kapoor who recommended that he be hired as the lead in the Pavitra Rishta.

The part was said to be a breakthrough for him and he won several television prizes for it including his first award for best actor at the Indian Television Academy Awards in 2010. He also received three major television awards including the best male actor and the most popular actor. In 2010 he was a member of the Mast Kalandar Boys team in the dance reality show Zara Nachke Dikha’s second season.

Mukesh Chhabra the casting director of Kai Po Che! discovered Rajput in 2011 and brought him to an audition. He was about to begin a filmmaking course at Stanford University when he decided to accept the offer. He was then cast in the part of Ishaan Bhatt a district-level cricketer who was a victim of politics in the selection fraternity and one of the three leads with Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh.

On September 25 2014 Sushant Singh Rajput was announced as the actor who would play Dhoni in the biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story directed by Neeraj Pandey. The film was based on the cricketer’s life beginning with his youth in Ranchi and culminating in India’s 2011 Cricket World Cup win under his captaincy.

On 2 May 2018 Rajput was inducted as a partner in Innsaei Ventures which was created on 26 April 2018 and was selected as one of its three directors along with Varun Mathur and Saurabh Mishra.  It is a 2013 Hindi-language buddy sports drama film directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under UTV Motion Pictures. It is the banner’s first standalone production under the DisneyUTV brand. Adapted from Chetan Bhagat’s 2008 novel The Three Mistakes of My Life the film stars debutant Sushant Singh Rajput Rajkummar Rao and Amit Sadh as the three major protagonists with a three-song soundtrack by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire. The title is a Gujarati word that means I have cut and it relates to Makar Sankranti (known as Uttarayan in Gujarat) when one of the contenders cuts off another competitor’s kite and cries the phrase.

Kai Po Che! which was made on a $300 million (US$3.8 million) budget was released worldwide on 22 February 2013 to critical acclaim in India but mixed reviews overseas with an appreciation for Kapoor’s direction and the performances of Rajput Rao and Sadh. The film grossed $830 million (US$10 million) globally making it both a critical and commercial triumph.

Shuddh Desi Romance

Shuddh Desi Romance is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy drama film directed and produced by Maneesh Sharma. Sushant Singh Rajput Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor play the key parts. The story set in Jaipur Rajasthan compares love weddings to arranged marriages and investigates the perspectives of the younger generation on commitment live-in relationships and arranged marriages. It premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival in the Gala Presentation section. The film received great reviews from critics with special praise for Chopra Rajput and Kapoor’s performances and Box Office India proclaimed it a hit in India.

During its first five days in theatres the picture grossed 295 million (US$3.7 million) nett. Shuddh Desi Romance grossed $1.08 million (Rs 7.04 crore) in its first weekend worldwide.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language mystery action thriller film directed and produced by Dibakar Banerjee and Aditya Chopra. The story is inspired on Bengali novelist Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s fictitious detective Byomkesh Bakshi.

Sushant Singh Rajput Anand Tiwari Neeraj Kabi and Swastika Mukherjee appear in the film. It was released on April 3 2015 to positive critical reviews; unfortunately it was a commercial flop. A sequel with Rajput returning his role was planned but it was cancelled after his death. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! grossed 4.2 crore (US$530 000) nett on its first day in India. The film earned 4.5 crore (US$560 000) and 5.36 crore (US$670 000) on its second and third days for a total weekend collection of 14.1 crore (US$1.8 million) in India. The total amount collected worldwide was 34.68 crores.

M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story

Neeraj Pandey wrote and directed M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story a 2016 Indian Hindi-language biographical sports drama film. It is based on the life of Mahendra Singh Dhoni the former Test ODI and T20I captain of the Indian national cricket team.

The late Sushant Singh Rajput plays MS Dhoni in the film which also stars Disha Patani Kiara Advani and Anupam Kher. The film follows Dhoni’s life from a young age via a variety of life events.

The film was released on Friday September 30th across about 3 500 screens and grossed 213 million (US$2.7 million) on its first day occupying 45-50% of the overall marketplace making it Sushant’s greatest opening of his career. In its first weekend the film grossed an estimated 219 million (US$2.7 million) from 60 countries.

Raabta

Raabta is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic action thriller film with a touch of comedy directed by Dinesh Vijan in his directorial debut and co-produced by Vijan Homi Adajania and Bhushan Kumar. Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon feature with Jim Sarbh Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma providing support. The plot revolves around reincarnated star-crossed lovers.

The film grossed Rs. 159.3 million in its first weekend in India. Raabta’s lifetime collection in India was Rs. 256.7 million. The film grossed a total of Rs. 390.5 million globally.

Kedarnath

Abhishek Kapoor wrote and directed the 2018 Indian Hindi-language romantic catastrophe film Kedarnath. It tells an inter-faith love story between a wealthy Hindu Brahmin girl whose family owns a lodge and shops near the historic Kedarnath Temple in the Uttarakhand mountains and a Muslim boy who works as a ‘pithoo’ (porter) in the same vicinity starring Sushant Singh Rajput and newcomer Sara Ali Khan. As their romance develops the couple faces numerous challenges including parental disapproval and disparities in their histories; when the 2013 Uttarakhand floods decimate the region the couple is forced to endure against the elements and confront the final test of their love.

Kedarnath grossed 6.85 crores on the first day of its India shows. Domestic earnings were 27 crores in the first weekend of release. The film grossed 40.85 crores in its first week in India. The film grossed 85.28 crores in the home market and 11.36 crores in the international market bringing the total worldwide gross to 102.77 crores.

Chhichhore

Chhichhore is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari written by Tiwari in collaboration with Piyush Gupta and Nikhil Mehrotra and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment with Fox Star Studios acquiring distribution rights. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput Shraddha Kapoor Varun Sharma Tahir Raj Bhasin Naveen Polishetty Tushar Pandey and Saharsh Kumar Shukla in the lead roles with Shishir Sharma and Mohammad Samad in supporting roles and is based on Tiwari’s experiences as a student at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

On the first day of its release Chhichhore grossed 6.92 crores (69.2 million). It increased its revenue on the second (first Saturday) and third (first Sunday) generating 34.77 crores (347.7 million) towards the end of the first weekend.

Dil Bechara

Dil Bechara is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language coming-of-age romantic film directed by Mukesh Chhabra produced by Fox Star Studios and written by Shashank Khaitan and Suprotim Sengputa. The film stars Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi as terminal cancer patients and is based on John Green’s 2012 novel The Fault in Our Stars and its accompanying 2014 American film version. Rajput makes an unexpected posthumous appearance in the film following his death on June 14 2020 (a month before the film’s release).

Post-production delays as well as the COVID-19 outbreak hampered the theatrical release. Rajput’s death on June 14 2020 resulted in a digital release on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming service on July 24 2020. In honour of Rajput it was made available on the platform without subscription in India and a few other nations. Sushant Singh Rajput quietly contributed 1.25 million rupees to Nagaland flood relief in 2018. He donated one crore rupees to Kerala Flood Relief and the act was not widely recognized or disclosed.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death

Sushant Singh Rajput was discovered dead in his Mumbai flat on Sunday June 14. The Mumbai Police Department first concluded that he committed suicide. A preliminary post-mortem examination at Cooper Hospital revealed that the cause of death was suffocation from hanging.

The police questioned many of Sushant Singh Rajput’s friends and coworkers during the initial investigation. Among them were Aditya Chopra Mukesh Chhabra Rhea Chakraborty Sanjay Leela Bhansali Rajeev Masand and Mahesh Bhatt.

Many of Sushant’s fans friends and well-wishers began online petitions in July 2020 urging the CBI to intervene in the case. Meanwhile Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti began engaged in internet conversation to advocate for a CBI inquiry. In July 2020 Rajput’s father KK Singh filed an FIR in Patna against Rhea Chakraborty and her family members for aiding and abetting suicide. The complaint was made under IPC Sections 306 (suicide attempt) 341 (wrongful restraint) 342 (wrongful confinement) 380 (theft in dwelling house) 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420. (cheating).

Rhea and her family members were then charged with money laundering by the Enforcement Directorate. KK Singh claimed that Rhea stole Rs 15 crore from Sushant’s accounts and was also responsible for giving him the incorrect medication. Rhea Chakraborty appeared before the ED in connection with allegations of financial irregularities. Rhea was arrested in September 2020 on drug-related charges for Sushant.

The AIIMS medical board presented its findings to the CBI in October. This is a case of hanging and suicide. We have given our final report to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said Dr. Sudhir Gupta forensic chief. Rhea’s bail was granted after a month. 

Ruling on Chakraborty’s appeal Justice Sarang V Kotwal ruled She is not part of the chain of drug sellers. She has not transmitted the narcotics she allegedly obtained to someone else in order to get monetary or other benefits… At this point there is no evidence that Rhea committed any crime involving a commercial quantity of contraband.

• Sushant won the National Level Olympiad in Physics. He had passed up to 11 engineering admission tests. He left out of Delhi School of Engineering after three years to pursue his goal of becoming an actor. In 2003 he was ranked seventh in AIEEE.
• When he was in Delhi Sushant was a member of Nadira Babbar’s Ekjute theatre group and Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe.
• Sushant was ambidextrous and able to write with both hands.
• In the space film Chanda Mama Door Ke Sushant was intended to play an astronaut. He’d even gone to NASA to prepare for the job. Unfortunately the film was never completed.
