Leela Mishra died of a heart attack in Mumbai on January 17, 1988. She was 80 years old at the time of her death. Her star sign was Capricorn.

The next opportunity was a job in the film Bhikarin, produced by a company owned by the Maharaja of Kolhapur. However, Leela Mishra could not avail the opportunity as the film required her to hug the actor (not her husband) while speaking, which she flatly refused.
She faced a similar problem while shooting for another film called Honhaar. She was cast opposite Shahu Modak as the female lead and was asked to hug him, but she again categorically refused. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her as the company could not remove her from the film as they were in a precarious legal position. She was offered the role of Modak’s mother in the film and she instantly felt comfortable with it. Due to this, she was able to play the role of a mother at the age of 18.

Rajshri later adapted the film into Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! in 1994.
