Alan Kelsey Grammer was born on February 21, 1955, in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, and is the son of Sally, a singer and actress, and Frank Alan Grammer Jr., a musician. Grammer attended the illustrious Juilliard School of Acting and then completed a three-year internship with the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in the late 1970s before joining the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1980. Grammer’s stage credits include his Broadway debut as Lennox in Macbeth in 1981 and his role as Sweeney Todd in the 1999 Los Angeles Reprise! musical production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

He continued to act on stage in various productions until 1984, when he joined the NBC sitcom Cheers as Dr. Frasier Crane. He was cast on the television show as a result of a recommendation made by his former Juilliard classmate and Broadway co-star Mandy Patinkin to one of the show’s casting directors. Grammer appeared on Cheers from the third to final season in 1993. Kelsey earned $1.6 million per episode of Frasier for the final two seasons. This equates to approximately $38 million per season or $76 million over the last two seasons.

In addition, he has appeared in television series and sitcoms such as “30 Rock” (2010–2012), “Boss” (2011–2012), “Partners” (2014), “The Last Tycoon” (2016–2017), “Modern Family” (2017), “Porters” (2017), “Proven Innocent” (2019), and “Carol’s Second Act” (2020). Grammer is the founder and CEO of Grammnet Productions. The company has produced television series such as “Medium” (2005–2011), “Girlfriends” (2000–2008), and “The Game” (2006–2015). In addition, he has served as an executive producer for shows such as “Gary the Rat” (2003), “Hank” (2009-2010), “Boss” (2011-2012), and “Light as a Feather” (2018). Considering the extensive number of films and shows his company has worked on, the company could be worth anywhere between $50-$100 million.

He has appeared in films and television series, including Down Periscope (1996), A Christmas Carol (2004), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Fame (2009), The Expendables 3 (2014), Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014), Killing Jesus (2015), and Like Father. Additionally, he has worked as a voice actor on several projects. He provided voice work for characters in the critically acclaimed films Anastasia (1997) and Toy Story 2 (1999) and won an Emmy Award for his work as Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons.

He has won numerous awards for his work on Frasier, including Emmys, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe. He made record history for being the first American to be nominated for Emmys Awards for playing the same character on three different television shows. In 2010, Grammer won his first Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, La Sage aux Folles Opérite for his highly acclaimed performance as Douglas Nodé. In 2016 he received a second nomination for a Tony Award and won the award as a producer for Solo Purple, the West End revival of a musical. He has received only one nomination from the Golden Globes, and he has won three times.

Grammer has seven children and one grandchild from four marriages. Doreen Alderman was his first wife, and they were married from 1982 to 1990. Camille Donatacci was his third wife, and they were married from 1997 to 2011. While together they appeared on the Bravo Real Housewives of Beverly Hills show. They had two children before divorcing. Camille received an estimated $30 million in cash and real estate assets when they finalized the divorce. Grammer married Katey Walsh two weeks after his third divorce was finalized, and the couple has three children.
