Paul caused much controversy when he played the batting in the penultimate innings of the final group match between the West Indies and Zimbabwe.

West Indies won the tournament, finishing second in their group, advancing to the quarter-finals, and eventually won the tournament. He averaged over 40 with his bat throughout the season and took seven wickets, including two against India in the championship match.

On 18 March 2017, he made his first-class debut for Guyana in the 2016–17 Regional Four-Day Tournament. On 5 August 2017, he made his Twenty20 debut for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. In October 2017, he scored his first century in first-class cricket for Guyana against Jamaica in the 2017–18 Regional Four-Day Tournament.

He won the Emerging Cricketer of the Year award at the 2018 West Indies Cricket Awards in June. In October 2018, he signed a development contract with Cricket West Indies (CWI) for the 2018–19 season.

In December 2018, Delhi Capitals bought him at the player auction for the 2019 Indian Premier League. In June 2019, he was selected to represent Montreal Tigers in the 2019 Global T20 Canada. In July of the same year, he was included in the roster of Guyana Amazon Warriors for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League.

Following an injury to Sheldon Cottrell, Paul joined the West Indies squad for the 2018 Cricket World Cup qualifiers on 9 March 2018. On 15 March 2018, he made his One-Day International (ODI) debut for the West Indies in a World Cup qualifier against Afghanistan.

In March 2018, the West Indies team picked him for the Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Pakistan. On 1 April 2018, he made his West Indies T20I debut against Pakistan.

He was selected in the West Indies Test squad for the series against Bangladesh in July 2018. He made his Test debut for the West Indies on 12 July 2018. Paul’s first five-wicket haul in a T20I came in the third and final T20I against Bangladesh in December 2018.

In May 2019, he was selected by the Cricket West Indies (CWI) as one of the 10 reserve players for the West Indies team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
