Ben Stoke’s Biography

English cricketer Benjamin Andrew Stokes OBE is the leader of the England Test squad and competes for the England Twenty20 International (T20I) team. He plays for Durham in domestic cricket and has participated in several Twenty20 competitions notably the Indian Premier League where he has played for Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals.

Stokes was a child immigrant to England. He played for England’s ODI side from 2011 till his retirement from the format in July 2022. He made his T20I debut in 2011 and his Test debut in 2013. He was a member of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He led the team in runs scored in the final innings and was named Man of the Match after batting in the tied Super Over. 

He received the ICC Award for Best Men’s Cricketer and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2019 and he was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2019 and 2020. In April 2022 he was named the Test squad captain for England. He scored the game-winning goal in the 2022 T20 World Cup final as a member of the England side.

Ben Stoke’s Domestic Career

In 2009 Stokes played his first one-day match for Durham at the Oval. In that same year he played in two youth tests against Bangladesh U-19. For the 2019 Under-19 World Cup Stokes was chosen. Against Marylebone Cricket Club he made his first-class debut. 

He played for Durham against Essex in the Championship for the first time that year. Against Nottinghamshire he hit his first first-class century. Ben Stokes joined the Melbourne Renegades of the Australian Big Bash League in January 2015.

Stokes was signed for Rs 14.5 crore by the Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2017 season. He struck 103 without being knocked out against the Gujarat Lions to get his first T20 century. In 14 games in the 2017 campaign Stokes won the Man of the Match award three times in total. Ben Stokes who was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 12.5 crore was the player who cost the most during the 2018 IPL auction.

In 2018 Stokes participated in 13 games hitting 196 runs and collecting eight wickets. Stokes played only nine and eight games for the Rajasthan Royals in 2019 and 2020 respectively. In a match against the Mumbai Indians on October 25 2020 he recorded his second century. Stokes participated in just one game of the IPL in 2021 and did not play in 2022.

In 2011 Stokes played against Ireland in his first ODI. Indian opponents made up his following ODI series. Due to an injury he sustained during the series he was only selected as a batter and was unable to bowl. Due to an injury poor performance and other conduct issues Stokes did not participate in a single game for the England cricket team in 2012. In the opening ODI of the 2014 series against the West Indies Stokes was once again selected for the ODI team.

Stokes was a member of the team for the series against India later that year. After the first two games he was benched but returned for the series’ penultimate game where he took three wickets and scored 33 runs. In the 2015 ODI series against New Zealand he displayed improved bat and ball control. With three wickets for 52 runs he contributed to his team’s victory in the series finale.

The following ODI series that Stokes participated in was against South Africa and he scored fifty-plus runs in both of those matches. In the ODI series against the Pakistani cricket squad England maintained its strong batting form. In the series against India in 2016–2017 Stokes hit two fifties.

Ben Stokes was selected for the Team of the Tournament as a result of his outstanding performance at the 2017 Champions Trophy. He was included in the ICC’s 2017 and 2018 World ODI XI for his performances. Ben Stokes was chosen to play for England at the 2019 World Cup in April 2019.

Particularly during the championship game Stokes was essential to England’s success. With his 84 not out Stokes helped tie the game. He then batted once more in the Super Over when the score was once again level but England prevailed thanks to the boundary count rule. He was recognized by the ICC as the Team of the Tournament.

Stokes did not get many opportunities to touch the ball during the three games. He did not perform well with the bat either scoring just 48 runs. After playing in an ODI match against South Africa on July 19 2022 Ben Stokes startled the world by announcing his retirement from the competition. He claimed that his decision to leave ODI cricket early was due to his inability to play in all three formats and his desire to concentrate more on T20I and Test cricket. Ben Stokes announced his retirement on July 18 2022.

Ben Stoke’s Test Career

In the second Test of the 2013–14 Ashes series against Australia Stokes played in his first Test match. He scored 120 off 195 balls in England’s second innings of the third Test of the series to get his first Test century. Stokes displayed a terrific all-around performance in the series hitting 279 runs and collecting 15 wickets even though England was thoroughly defeated. The Indian national cricket team was Stokes’ next opponent in a significant Test series in 2014. He was left out of the team for the remainder of the series due to his poor batting in the first two Test matches.

Stokes has pulled aside for a tour of the West Indies. Stokes’ performance in the competition fell far short of what was anticipated of him. Despite his subpar performance Stokes was kept in the lineup for the Test series against New Zealand. Ben Stokes scored the second-fastest Test century at Lord’s and the fastest by an England batsman in the second innings of the first Test of the series. To get to 100 runs he needed just 85 balls. For the 2015 Ashes Stokes was chosen. His performance in the series was uneven and England ultimately prevailed 3-2.

Stokes was chosen for the visit against Pakistan in the UAE the same year. With a half-century and four wickets in the opening game of the series Stokes played admirably. He hurt his shoulder in the third and final game. Ben Stokes was chosen for the 2015–16 South Africa tour after fully recovering from the injury.

Stokes had his finest Test performance of his career scoring 258 runs off 167 balls in the second game of the series. Additionally it was the second-fastest double-century in Test cricket history. He and Jonny Bairstow added 399 runs to the total during this inning setting a new world record. In the third and fourth games of the series Stokes took a total of five wickets.

Stokes was chosen for the Test series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2016. Stokes demonstrated his mettle in the 2019 Ashes after excelling in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. By hitting 135 not out while pursuing a target of 359 runs to help England win the match from an almost certain loss he played a significant part in tying the series 2-2.

Stokes participated in a few series in 2018 against Sri Lanka and India. In the first Test against India Stokes bowled superbly bagging a total of 6 wickets. Stokes played three more games against India claimed eight more wickets and added 173 runs to his total.

A few months later Stokes played three matches against Sri Lanka and scored three times in the fifties. Stokes then participated in the Ashes series in 2019. Stokes had a half-century and four wickets in the first game. Stokes then produced a magnificent century during the following match at Lord’s earning him Player of the Game honors. Stokes had a standout performance in the third game one of the greatest in Test history.

He contributed a magnificent unbroken 135 to England’s successful 359-point comeback and one-wicket victory. Stokes scored a stunning century and a half against South Africa in 2020. Stokes then scored 176 runs in one inning and 78 runs in the following one while playing against the West Indies.

Stokes played four games in a road series against India. He scored several fifty-plus runs against India and claimed a total of five wickets. Stokes had four wickets and two scores of at least 60 in the Ashes series that followed against Australia.

Stokes then got a century in the West Indies series in 2022. Joe Root relinquished his position as England’s Test captain following the West Indies series and Ben Stokes was named in his place. Stokes led his team to victory in his first Test series as captain while also scoring a few half-centuries.

In the two-match T20I series against South Africa in 2015–16 Stokes came up short. For the 2016 ICC Twenty20 World Cup Stokes was chosen. The tournament’s early going saw little influence from Stoke. In the semifinal matchup with the Kiwis Stokes bowled effectively taking three wickets for 26 runs. Ben Stokes was given the ball to defend 19 runs in the final over. But Carlos Braithwaite hammered him for four straight sixes and West Indies won the Cup.

Stokes participated in the lone T20I match against Pakistan and the three-match T20I series against India following the devastating World Cup.Stokes totaled 46 runs and two wickets throughout the series against India. He then participated in a few matches in 2018 against Sri Lanka and India. Stokes’ next series is against South Africa in 2020.In three games he not only hit 63 runs but also claimed four wickets with the ball. In November and December 2020 he will play South Africa in his next series. In his three games he totaled 53 runs and two wickets while playing.

Stokes played five Twenty20 Internationals against India in 2021 scoring 84 runs throughout three innings while only taking three wickets. He played three matches scored 33 runs and took one wicket in his farewell series against Australia in October 2022.

England captain Ben Stokes claimed that the incident in which he was involved in 2017 had an impact on his family. Stokes is accused of knocking down an unconscious person outside a Bristol nightclub almost five years ago.
