Bengal Warriors (BEN) is a professional Kabaddi League Kabaddi team based in Kolkata, West Bengal. In 2019, they won the Champions Trophy for the first time by defeating Dabang Delhi FC. Maninder Singh is the current manager of the team while others are their coaches. Netaji Indoor Stadium is the home ground of the team.
Bengal Warriors won the coveted trophy in the seventh season but after a disastrous defeat in PKL 8, they will be looking to take another shot at the trophy. The Warriors decided to build a brand new team around captain Maninder Singh before the auction. Bengal got one of the strongest squads at the auction, winning some top defensive players while also strengthening the squad with some young players who can help Maninder. With a strong team, Bengal Warriors will no doubt be confident about their chances of winning the PKL trophy again in the upcoming season.
Despite being one of the least successful clubs in the league, the Warriors are owned by a well-known company: the Kolkata-based Future Group, backed by Kishore Biyani.
We have all heard of Future Group as it owns a number of retail and apparel stores including Big Bazaar Home Centre EasyDay Central Planet Sports Brand Factory etc. It is one of the top companies in the Indian retail industry in terms of assets and market capitalization.
Future Group FBB’s subsidiary has tied up with Vivo, the sponsor of IPL 2017. Hence, Future Group’s logo is seen on the boundary ropes, court mats and other items.
Future Group organizes inter-school competitions in Bangladesh and has taken various other approaches to create awareness about the sport. Future Group was founded by Kishore Biyani. Born in Mumbai, Biyani comes from a family of entrepreneurs. He founded Future Group, now Manz Wear Garments, in 1987. With highly successful businesses such as Pantaloons Big Bazaar and Home Centre, Mr. Biyani is a pioneer in the Indian retail industry.
It is worth noting that Sandip Takas, the group’s CEO of sports media and special projects and the team’s main person in charge, has left the organization. Takas is now working on a new project. However, in the meantime, he will continue to stay connected with the Bengal Warriors organization.
