Career

Avneet Kaur began her career in 2010 at the young age of 8 by competing in DID Little Masters. She then took part in the dancing reality competition Dance Ke Superstar. Avneet debuted as an actor in the Life OK series Meri Maa in which she portrayed Jhilmil. Later after playing Princess/Queen Charumati in the Star Plus serial Chandra Nandini and Shehzadi/Sultana Yasmine in Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga she became well-known in the television industry. 2014 saw Avneet make her Bollywood debut in the movie Mardaani as Meera. She then appeared in the Bollywood movies Mardaani 2 and Qarib Qarib Single.

Dance India Dance Li’l Masters (2010)

Dance India Dance  Li’L Masters is a Zee TV-produced dance competition reality series in the Hindi language. The structure of the show requires dancers from a range of styles to compete in open auditions held in Indian metropolises to demonstrate their individual styles and talents. If selected to continue they are then put through mega-audition rounds of auditions to gauge their versatility. The top 18 dancers are selected as finalists after the mega audition and advance to compete in the competition’s main round.

The performance includes a wide range of Indian cultural and international dance forms including classical contemporary Bollywood hip-hop jazz kalarippayattu salsa and musical theatre styles among others with representation from various sub-genres of each of these styles. In an effort to survive multiple weeks of elimination and take home a monetary reward and frequently other prizes competitors try to master these styles.

Farah Khan and Sandip Soparrkar served as judges for DID L’il Masters’ inaugural season. Manish Paul served as its host. Jai Vrushali and Mayuresh Amrutha and Dharmesh were the four skippers. Dharmesh ke Dhinchak Jai ke Jhatang-Fatang Vrushali aur Mayuresh ke Dhum-Dhadake and Amritha ke Aflatoon were the names of their respective teams. On Vrushali and Mayuresh’s squad was Avneet Kaur. In the semifinal round she was eliminated.

Meri Maa (2011)

Life OK broadcast the Indian drama serial Meri Maa from 18 December 2011 to 22 April 2012. Young Jhilmil was kidnapped when she was young after getting lost in a festival. She was then nurtured alongside other children in a slum. The real mother of Jhilmil laments the loss of her daughter but her mother-in-law believes she is to blame for the kidnapping and death.

Avneet Kau played the character of Jhilmil in the show Meri Maa. The serial was an adaptation of the Bengali Serial by the name Maa….Tomay Chara Ghum Ashena. It was also adapted in various other languages. Bommukutty Ammavukku in Tamil and Paape Maa Jeevanajyothi in Telugu.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 (2012)

The Hindi-language equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars on the BBC is called Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. In the programme famous people perform with trained dancers. Each pair competes against the other for the judges’ points and the audience’s votes by performing choreographed dances. Each week until just the winning dance team is left the couple with the lowest combined score among the judges and the audience is eliminated.

Avneet Kaur participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 with Darsheel Safary. She was the youngest contestant on the show. The fifth season of the dance reality programme Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is referred to as Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5. It began on Colors on June 16 2012 and ended on September 30 2012. Ragini Khanna and Manish Paul co-hosted the programme.

Savitri (2013)

Indian fantasy drama television programme Savitri was broadcast on Life OK from February 18 until October 4 2013. Before the show debuted Flying Turtles took over the production from the original co-producers Film Farm India. A cast update was done in August 2013. The famous Indian folktale of Savitri and Satyavan from the Mahabharata is updated in this contemporary version.

The show starred Avneet Kaur Ridhi Dogra Yash Pandit Krip Suri and Sumana Das among others. Avneet Kaur played the role of young Damayanti in the serial.

The tale is comparable to the tale of Satyavan and Savitri in which Savitri out of pure love saves her husband’s life from Yamraj. Here Satya’s life has been taken by Rahu Kaal and Savitri is frantically attempting to save him.

Ek Mutthi Aasmaan (2013)

Television in India featured the family drama Ek Mutthi Aasmaan. The casting was handled by Neha Pandey. It was broadcast on Zee TV every day at 7 o’clock. The programme was dubbed in English and broadcast on Zee World DSTV and Polimer TV as En Kanmani. The public can still watch it on ZEE5 in the original Hindi form. 

Ek Mutthi Aasmaan starred Rachna Parulkar Asha Negi Avneet Kaur Ashish Choudhary and Shilpa Shirodhkar among others. Avneet Kaur played the role of young Pakhi.

The story of Kalpana Kalpi Jadhav and Raghav Singhania is followed in Ek Mutthi Aasmaan as their paths cross while seeking personal growth. The parents of Kalpi are mill worker Vitthal Jadhav and maid Kamla Jadhav. Her mother works incredibly hard because she wants to join the middle class. Despite Kalpana’s unselfish love for her mother Kamla is constantly occupied taking care of the relatives of her employers primarily Pakhi Kapoor depriving Kalpana of that affection and attention. Rich businessman Raghav Singhania wants exact revenge on the Kapoor family for killing his father.

Hamari Sister Didi (2014)

An Indian drama series called Hamari Sister Didi was shown on Sony Pal. The show starred Avneet Kaur Pariva Pranati Bhanu Uday Shivangi Verma Ishaan Singh Alka Kaushal and Hiten Tejwani among others. Avneet Kaur played the role of Khushi Avinash Kapoor Amrita and Avinash’s daughter.

Amrita commonly known as Sister Didi is the star of the show and the head nurse of Muskaan Hospital in Patiala. Her husband Dr. Avinash had always wanted to open a hospital because he thought that caring for patients and showing them love came before everything else. And in that way even after his unexpected death Amrita continued to get care at the hospital. The hospital’s newest employee is Dr. Karan. As soon as he walks in he is horrified by how the hospital is run. He makes modifications which Amrita evidently finds objectionable.

Mardaani (2014)

Pradeep Sarkar and Aditya Chopra’s 2014 action-thriller Mardaani is an Indian production in the Hindi language. Rani Mukerji is the movie’s lead and Jisshu Sengupta Tahir Raj Bhasin and Saanand Verma play supporting parts. The story centers on Shivani Shivaji Roy a police officer whose interest in the case of a teenage girl abducted causes her to learn details about the Indian mafia’s involvement in human trafficking.

A police officer gets drawn into the vile world of child trafficking while looking for a missing adolescent girl. The police and a mafia kingpin engage in a game of cat and mouse after that.

On August 22 2014 the movie was theatrically released. It was well received garnering accolades for Mukerji’s acting and it became a financial success. In 2019 a sequel called Mardaani 2 was released. Following the popularity of Mardaani 2 the production company revealed in December 2019 that Mardaani 3 a potential third entry in the Mardaani series would have Rani Mukherjee playing Shivani Shivaji Roy again.

Chandra Nandini (2017)

From 10 October 2016 until 10 November 2017 Chandra Nandini a historical fiction drama television series in Hindi was broadcast on Star Plus. It is directed by Ranjan Kumar Singh and was produced by Ekta Kapoor under the Balaji Telefilms banner. The plot is mainly based on the life of Chandragupta Maurya and stars Rajat Tokas as the monarch and Shweta Basu Prasad as the princess Nandni. The first wife of King Bindusara Charumati Maurya was portrayed by Avneet Kaur.

The protagonist of the tale is Chandragupta Maurya the creator of the Maurya Empire and a renowned warrior and king who is credited with uniting the Indian subcontinent. The center of the programme is his romance with Nandini a princess. In 2017 there was a significant change in the series’ plot. Avneet Kaur and Siddharth Nigam joined the cast as Charumati and Bindusara respectively.

This is one of the most expensive programmes that Ekta Kapoor and Balaji Telefilms have ever created. The primary performers Rajat Tokas and Shweta Basu Prasad as well as producer Ekta Kapoor appeared at a press conference in Mumbai. The series’ opening sequences were filmed at Patna’s historic sites of Magadh and Pataliputra.   The series was primarily shot in Mumbai though. Star Vijay broadcast the series in a Tamil dub. The programme airs on the Swarnavahini network in Sri Lanka in Sinhala. The series airs on TV3 in Malaysia in Hindi.

Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga (2018)

An Indian fantasy television show called Aladdin – Naam Toh Suna Hoga is based on the Arabian Nights character Aladdin. On Sony SAB the show debuted on August 21 2018. The story follows Aladdin a good-hearted robber as he develops feelings for Princess Yasmine makes friends with a wish-granting Genie of the Lamp fights Sultan Aiyyar Zafar following his rebirth and battles Zafar and subsequently the evil enchantress Mallika.

The show starred Siddharth Nigam Avneet Kaur Aamir Dalvi and Smita Bansal among others. Avneet Kaur played the character of Yasmine the princess. However Avneet had to leave the show in the middle of 2020 due to some health-related issues. Avneet Kaur was later replaced by Ashi Singh in the show.

Upcoming Projects

Tiku Weds Sheru

The upcoming romance drama and dark satire Tiku Weds Sheru would be in Hindi. The movie is written and directed by Sai Kabir and is produced by Kangana Ranaut under the Manikarnika Films label. Avneet Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui play the key characters. The movie is Kangana’s first endeavour since the establishment of her production company in 2020. The movie will make its Amazon Prime Video debut.

Kangana Ranaut wanted Irrfan Khan to star in this movie. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was chosen to play the male role after his death and Avneet Kaur was chosen as the female lead. Along with the new partnership casting reignited the controversy about the dramatic age difference between the male and female actors. Regarding this Ranaut said she didn’t mind the 27-year age difference between the actors because they seemed to be well suited for the plot while Kaur said she doesn’t think the age difference is an issue because it was necessary for the movie.
