In April 2021, Anshu Malik made history by becoming the youngest Indian female wrestler to qualify for the Olympics after winning the women’s 57kg category at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers in Almaty, Kazakhstan. On October 6, the female wrestler defeated Ukrainian silver medalist Solomia Vynnyk in the 57kg category with a dominant 11-0 victory. She is the fifth wrestler from India to qualify for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Anshu Malik won the gold medal at the 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships along with Vinesh Phogat and Divya Kakran. In the same year, she won the gold medal in the 57kg category at the 23rd National Women’s Wrestling Championships.

In April 2022, Anshu Malik won the bronze medal in the 57kg category at the 2022 Asian Wrestling Championships in Ulaanbaatar. In the first quarterfinal of the Asian Championships final, Sakurai Luan, who was entangled with Anshu Malik in the upper body, twisted her opponent’s arm with all her strength and threw her to the ground. After waiting for ten seconds, she grabbed Anshu’s right ankle. Then, she grabbed Anshu’s arm with a cross armbar and twisted it violently, applying a lot of pressure on her shoulder and elbow. Anshu was pinned down before she even realized what was happening. It took Sakurai only 54 seconds to resolve the conflict. After participating in the women’s 57kg freestyle final at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, she won the silver medal.
Anshu defeated Australia’s Erin Simeonidis by technical superiority in the quarterfinals and then defeated Sri Lanka’s Netemi Polutotag in the semifinals. Anshu Malik lost to Nigeria’s Odunayo Flasade Adekuroye 3-7 to win the silver medal.
Anshu Malik says the secret to her continuous improvement is mental toughness. She claims that a calm disposition blocks out the world’s negative perceptions and the possibility of being defeated by stronger opponents. Despite exhaustion or stress, Anshu Malik wakes up at 4:30 a.m. every day to practice and never misses a class. She reportedly traveled 120 miles to sit for her school exams in Rohtak a month before the World Championships.

After developing a fever, Anshu Malik was forced to withdraw from the Polish Open 2021 and was placed in quarantine as a precaution. According to reports, the current Asian champion Anshu developed a fever while participating in the 57kg weigh-in. She was advised to withdraw from the tournament. However, Anshu did not want to miss the tournament but had to do so out of an abundance of caution.
Anshu Malik suffered an elbow injury at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and aggravated the injury during the World Championships final against American Helen Maroulis. The Indian wrestler has been battling injuries ever since.
According to a statement on the website of the World Wrestling Federation, the international governing body of the sport, Anshu Malik did not participate in the 2022 World Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from September 10 to 18. She underwent elbow surgery in Mumbai and was unable to participate in the World Wrestling Championships.
