Amjad Ali Khan is an Indian sarod player. He was born in 1945 in a famous musical family in Gwalior and has been deeply influenced by music since birth. His father, Hafiz Ali Khan, comes from a musical family and claims to be the inventor of the sarod. Amjad Ali Khan’s father was one of the most sought-after musicians of the time, and he was taught by his father since he was a child.

At the age of six, Amjad Ali Khan gave his first solo recital. By the age of eighteen, he had traveled to the United States to perform. Since then, he has been a passionate performer and advocate for Indian classical music, helping it gain global recognition. Amjad Ali Khan began his performing career in 1963 when he traveled to the United States as a young adult. He performed frequently in India and around the world. His dedication and skill earned him the Padma Shri in 1975. His musical influence in the United States was so great that the state of Massachusetts designated April 20 as Amjad Ali Khan Day in 1984. He was also honored as an honorary citizen by cities such as Houston, Nashville and Tulsa.

In 1991, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan and in 2001 the Padma Vibhushan.
