Amala Akkineni is a Bharatanatyam dancer and animal rights activist from India. She has acted primarily in Tamil films but has also acted in Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. She was a leading actress in the Tamil film industry from 1986 to 1992 and has starred in many blockbuster films in Tamil and other languages.
She has won two South Filmfare Awards: Best Actress in Malayalam in 1991 for the film Uladhakam and Best Supporting Actress in Telugu for the film Life is Beautiful in 2012. Amala is the co-founder of Hyderabad Blue Cross, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in Hyderabad, India, working for animal care and animal rights.

SP Muthuraman directed this 1987 Tamil action-comedy film starring Rajinikanth Sarath Babu Amala and Pallavi. It was a remake of the 1982 Hindi film Namak Halaal. The film was released on March 7, 1987 and was a box office success. Rajinikanth was not paid anything due to the loss incurred by the producers due to the appearance of Sri Raghavendra (1985).
This 1988 Indian Tamil action film was directed by Bharathiraja. It stars Rajinikanth, who reunites with Bharathiraja nearly a decade after their collaboration in 16 Vayathinile (1977). With the help of a body double, a mafia boss attempts to assassinate police officer Sivagiri, who is raiding his illegal company. Rajasekhar directed this 1989 Tamil masala film starring Rajinikanth Srividya and Amala. It is a remake of the 1989 Telugu film Attaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu, with Chiranjeevi, who played the lead role in the original Telugu version, making a special cameo appearance in this film.
The film received a warm welcome from the public and became a blockbuster after more than 200 days of release. 22 years later, the film was adapted into a Tamil version with the same title. Vyjayanthimala was initially cast to play the role of the mother-in-law of the protagonist. But she turned down the role and it was later given to Srividya.
It is a 2022 Indian sci-fi melodrama film produced by Dream Warrior Pictures and written and directed by newcomer Shree Karthick. The film was shot in Telugu and Tamil, the latter of which is titled Kanam (translates to “The Moment”). Sharwanand Amala Akkineni and Ritu Varma star in the lead roles. In the Telugu version, Vennela Kishore Priyadarshi and Nassar play supporting roles, while Sathish and Ramesh Thilak replace the first two in the Tamil version.
The production of the film began in August 2019, with the main shooting taking place in Hyderabad and Chennai. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film was delayed by 8 months and wrapped up in November 2020. The film was released in theatres on September 9, 2022, and received positive reviews from critics and performed well at the box office.
